He was also a disciple of the leading figure of Vedanta philosophy. Surya Dev Tulsi introduced surya namaskar in India. According to the teaching of Surya Dev, the expression – Namaskar – signifies the two fists held in the air. It is also called Sharada Namaskar, Shankaracharya Namaskar or Karmanacharya Namaskar.
